WCSD receives $750,000 five-year grant from DoDEA to develop ‘Cyclones Tactical Fitness and Health’ programming

A community-wide preparation system will make sure that task efforts focus on culture-changing impactful health and wellness activities, leveraging all offered resources and knowledge, placing the project for long-term sustainability.Lisa J. Blank, director of STEM programs, worked together with Stacey Eger-Converse, assistant superintendent for guideline, on this grant with input from athletics and health teachers.– Standard 6: Recognizes career opportunities and manages personal and neighborhood resources related to physical activity and fitness to achieve and maintain total wellness.When the Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization launched the outcomes of its community survey on the basic health status of the neighborhood, Ms. Blank stated the district used a lot of that information at the time to support its narrative for this grant, and was able to plainly specify the requirements of the community based on the health data that came out of that report. She stated the district is looking at purchasing resources to support physical education classes as well as those career course focused classes, like courses in health and anatomy and physiology, the biological sciences, that support those health professions, beefing them up and giving students more opportunities.

Educator groups, composed of grade-level health, physical education and science teachers will establish curriculum products and lesson plans that engage trainees in pertinent real-world analytical tasks focused on health science and physical well-being. The inclusion of Allied Health in neighborhood engagement events will display trainee learning while supplying helpful outreach to the community.After-school tactical fitness and health clubs will support physical fitness and well-being while supplying scholastic, social, and developmental benefits.
