Unexpected Things I Have Learned Since Moving to HawaiiFifteen years ago when my family and I chose to move here, we understood that it would be a big life modification. Moving from Maine, we understood some things were pretty apparent such as not having to prepare additional time to brush snow off of our cars and trucks in the winter season, pay to heat our house, or and need a plane to go to another state. Being able to go to the beach and swim year-round was likewise an offered.
What I wasnt gotten ready for were the subtle modifications that have taken location with time and the unexpected things Ive learnt more about island life. I believed it would be fun to share and see how numerous individuals can relate.
Island Time is a Real Thing
The other day I was waiting at a stoplight for my turn to cross a hectic road. When the light changed, I stopped briefly to look both methods one more time as it is a hectic intersection. The person behind me in line honked their horn at me. My very first idea was, “someone I know lags me and wishes to get my attention to say aloha.” I drive a purple car so people honking at me for no reason simply doesnt occur. When I looked in my rearview mirror, I realized I didnt understand the individual, nor did they know me. They were more than likely in a rush and not familiar with the crossway. The factor that I bring this up is due to the fact that I have actually lived here for 15 years now, and this is the first time that anybody has actually ever beeped at me because I havent moved quickly enough. The only time I ever use the horn in my vehicle is to get a friends attention to say aloha or to somebody or to alert somebody whos backing out into traffic. Island time actually is a thing. The very best thing to do is accept it and breathe.
People Stop to Connect with Friends
Its not unusual to pull up behind someone at an intersection whos catching up with a pal who is coming from the other direction. Sometimes its the only time people can connect with their buddies who are cashiering.
